Q&A With Dr. Sandy
What advice would you give someone considering chiropractic care for the first time, and help them feel confident with their decision?
Chiropractic care is impactful as it addresses the root cause of your issue, focusing on how your nervous system functions and delivering adjustments to improve that. Because the nervous system dominates your body’s conscious and unconscious functions, you’d be amazed at how your body improves with just an adjustment to a point of dysfunction. Chiropractors are also trained to deliver specific, safe, and tailored care to each individual. We perform detailed assessments such as palpation, nervoscope, and x-rays to ensure care is tailored to your needs.
Can you describe your experience with Gonstead and why you chose to specialise in it?
In my early university days, my mother had severe plantar fasciitis which was looked at with different treatment methods such as ultrasound and shockwave therapy. But to my surprise, the only thing that improved her condition was a specific Gonstead adjustment to her pelvic joint. The shocking results made me pursue Gonstead technique as I realised the impact it gives to patients with minimal need of modalities.
What advice would you give someone considering a career in chiropractic?
This profession is one a kind, so stay consistent and connect with peers! The community is large and you’ll find lots of helpful resources so long as you reach out.
What is the most underrated benefit of chiropractic care and why?
Though it is most popular for treating musculoskeletal symptoms, it can actually produce direct and indirect results to mental clarity and focus as well. From firsthand experience, being able to live pain-free or at full capacity allows us to perform better at work, school, or even at home. This influences one’s relationship with partners, families, and friends, which is so cool to see!
What are some misconceptions people have about chiropractic and how do you address them to your patients?
A popular belief is that the louder the adjustment, the better it will be, but that is false. When an adjustment is delivered, gas can be released from synovial joints which produce noise. But the amount of gas released does not always quantify the quality of the adjustment.
Some joints simply do not have much gas in there and we do not have intentions on creating noise to make you feel better, rather we rely on palpation to ensure a bone has been adjusted well. So, you can see changes even if your joints do not produce a “satisfactory” sound.
How do you track a patient’s progress over time?
With symptom reduction being one measure, we palpate the spine each visit to check for reduction of swelling, reduced tenderness, and improved motion. This ensures that we rely on both subjective and objective measures for assessing nervous system function.

Family And Women’s Health In Chiropractic
Dr. Sandy's motivation and passion for chiropractic care stem from her family’s experiences with back and neck pain. Determined to alleviate their discomfort, she pursued a double degree in Bachelor of Health Science/Applied Science (Chiropractic), beginning a career dedicated to helping others feel and function better. This personal connection drives her special interest in treating families, including babies, children, and women’s health, as she aims to share the transformative benefits of chiropractic care for their unique conditions. Her passion for supporting families extends to educating parents on healthy lifestyle practices and the importance of spinal health from a young age.
Chiropractic For A Better Quality of Life
Dr Sandy understands that chiropractic care is not just about addressing back or neck pain, rather about optimising the nervous system’s function. She has witnessed first hand how Chiropractic adjustments not only alleviate discomfort but also support the body’s natural ability to heal. By removing nerve interference through precise chiropractic adjustments, she helps her patients achieve a better quality of life and improved functionality, whether that be in daily activities or athletic performance.
One of Melbourne's only Gonstead Chiropractors specialising in care for women and children, Dr. Sandy brings knowledge and experience. She understands the needs of women during pregnancy and how chiropractic can help, as well as the importance of proper spinal alignment for newborns and children. Dr. Sandy believes adding chiropractic care to a family’s routine improves overall health for parents and kids.
