A Portrait Of Excellence In Gonstead Chiropractic

Exclusively practising as a South-East Melbourne based Gonstead Chiropractor, Dr. Joash Boey is dedicated to his craft with a strong foundation of experience, discipline, and passion for patient care. His background serving in the army, combined with his extensive training from world-renowned Gonstead practitioners, adds to Dr Joash's abilities in providing a gold standard of chiropractic care.
To stay at the forefront of his field, Dr. Joash attends 3-4 Gonstead seminars annually. These seminars cover a wide range of advanced topics, including extremities, paediatrics, complicated cases and detailed analysis techniques. By continuously enhancing his skills and knowledge, focusing on the Gonstead technique, he can deliver the most up-to-date and effective treatments available.
Expertise In Spinal Biomechanics
Dr. Joash’s expertise lies in spinal biomechanics and dysfunction, with a particular focus on diagnosing and treating complex cases involving headaches, neck pain, and other related conditions. He brings years of experience and a deep understanding of the intricate relationship between spinal health and it's impact on the entire musculoskeletal system. By conducting thorough analyses and tailoring treatments to each patient’s unique needs, Dr. Joash helps individuals achieve optimal spinal health. This not only alleviates specific symptoms but also promotes better posture, improved mobility, and enhanced quality of life overall.
By addressing the underlying causes of discomfort rather than simply mitigating symptoms, along with his commitment to accuracy and individualised care, Dr. Joash goes beyond surface level treatments. He educates his patients on leading healthier, pain free lives, while delivering more than just symptomatic relief.
Q&A With Dr. Joash
You have trained under some world-class Chiropractors, tell us more.
In my time as a student and a Chiropractor, I’ve had the privilege to train under Dr Matt Panetta, Dr Jeff Vecranges, Dr Eric Topcu and Dr Ian Rossborough. They have a combined experience of more than 100 years of Chiropractic and managing patients and have mentored me closely, teaching the Gonstead method. I also regularly attend Gonstead seminars which are held throughout Australia to ensure that my knowledge is up to date with the latest research.
Do you integrate other healthcare professionals into your patient's treatment plan?
If the patient requires immediate medical attention or has a complex issue which may need a referral to a specialist, we work with many different health practitioners to get the best outcome for the patient. We also work closely with personal trainers, exercise physiologist, physiotherapist and remedial massage therapist.
Can you describe how you overcome challenging cases?
The Gonstead analysis and technique has a methodology that can be followed even for the most complex and challenging cases. There are a number of criteria and steps to adhere to before adjusting and correcting the problems of the spine. We use specific tools and X-rays to determine the exact problem and how to correct it in the safest manner.
What are questions you get from patients and how do you answer them?
The most common questions patients often think about, even if they don't ask them outright, are:
Am I in the right place?
Can you identify the problem?
Can you fix the problem?
How long will it take?
How much will it cost?
At our practice, we will always do a detailed health history and examination to determine whether we can help our patients, if deemed that the issues are out of our scope of practice, we will always refer them if necessary. Majority of cases can be addressed with the Gonstead Chiropractic system and we will always give a detailed plan of care which will cover how long the problem will take, and the number of visits we expect to get you out of pain.
What qualities do you believe are essential for a successful chiropractor?
I have seen many Chiropractors fall in and out of the profession. The reality is that most graduates don’t follow through after they finish their degree. The reason is because of how tough this profession is. A successful Chiropractor needs to be able to continually learn and strive for excellence and be determined to provide the best care for the patient.

Nurturing Future Chiropractors
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Joash has a deep passion for advancing the education of his industry through teaching and mentoring. During his time at university, he served as the President of the Gonstead Chiropractic Club, where he not only led but also taught and mentored fellow students. His ability to break down complex chiropractic concepts into accessible knowledge has aided students by nurturing both their intellectual curiosity and their professional growth. His leadership and guidance has helped shape the next generation of chiropractors, and he continues to pass on his knowledge and expertise to others in the field.

Integrating Community, Fitness And Healthcare
Dr. Joash is deeply involved in his local community, regularly volunteering at his church and maintaining an active lifestyle with interests in fitness, martial arts, and volleyball. His understanding of body mechanics, injury prevention, and rehabilitation has been further enhanced by the hobbies he pursues in his spare time.
On top of all this, Dr. Joash is fluent in conversational Mandarin, allowing him to connect with a more diverse patient base. With a focus on patient education and a dedication to continuous learning, Dr. Joash Boey is committed to guiding his patients towards achieving their best health through exceptional chiropractic care.
