Head Pain Conditions

Cervicogenic Headaches

These headaches typically begin in the neck region and radiate toward the forehead, temples, or eyes, often accompanied by neck stiffness or discomfort.

Migraines

Migraines are a disorder characterised by intense, throbbing pain usually on one side of the head. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound.

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

This is a common inner ear disorder that causes brief episodes of dizziness or vertigo when the position of the head is suddenly changed.

Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction

Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ) refers to a set of conditions that affect the jaw joint and muscles that control jaw movement.

Shoulder And Arm Pain Conditions

Rotator Cuff Tendinitis

This condition occurs when the tendons in the rotator cuff become inflamed or irritated, usually because of extensive, repetitive overhead motions or prolonged strain.

Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder)

This is characterised by stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint, typically developing gradually and worsening over time.

Shoulder Impingement Syndrome

When the shoulder blade exerts pressure on the underlying soft tissues when the arm is lifted, causing pain and restricts movement.

Shoulder Arthritis

Arthritis in the shoulder joint leads to inflammation, pain, and decreased range of motion. Typically worsens with activity and may become chronic without treatment.

Elbow Pain Conditions

Lateral / Medial Epicondylitis

Known as Tennis Elbow and Golfer's Elbow, these conditions are caused by damage to the muscles and tendons, usually from overusing the arm/forearm.

Olecranon Bursitis

Commonly known as "student's elbow," this occurs when the small sac of fluid (bursa) at the tip of the elbow (olecranon) becomes inflamed. It is often caused by prolonged pressure.

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

This issue arises when the ulnar nerve becomes compressed at the elbow, leading to pain, numbness, or tingling in the ring/little fingers.

Elbow Joint Subluxation

This occurs when the bones in the elbow are partially dislocated, leading to pain and instability, due to falls or sudden impacts on the elbow, as well as overuse injuries.

Wrist And Hand Pain Conditions

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

A common condition caused by pressure on the median nerve as it passes through the wrist, leading to numbness, tingling or pins and needles, and weakness in the hand.

Wrist Tendonitis

Inflammation of the tendons around the wrist joint, common in people with jobs involving repetitive wrist motions and excessive use, resulting in pain and stiffness.

Hand Arthritis

Wearing down of joint cartilage, often impacting the joints in the hand, arthritis can cause inflammation, stiffness, and pain. Usually osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.

De Quervain's Tenosynovitis

This painful condition affects the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist and causes discomfort when forming a fist, grasping objects, or turning the wrist.

Back Pain Conditions

Lower Back Strain

Overstretching or tearing of muscles and ligaments from heavy lifting, sudden movements, or poor posture can lead to acute or chronic back pain.

Bulging Discs

Discs act as cushions between the vertebrae of your spine. When experiencing a bulging or ruptured disc, nerves are compressed, which can cause extreme pain.

Back Arthritis

Arthritis in the spine leads to the breakdown of cartilage between joints. This causes pain, stiffness, and sometimes nerve compression, especially in the lower back.

Spinal Stenosis

This condition involves the narrowing of the spinal canal, putting pressure on nerves leading to pain, numbness, and weakness, particularly when standing or walking.

Hip And Leg Pain Conditions

Trochanteric Bursitis (Hip Bursitis)

This condition involves the inflammation of the bursae, small fluid-filled sacs that cushion the hip, causing pain during movement or pressure.

Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

Involving the misalignment or dysfunction of the sacroiliac joint, the connection of the spine and the pelvis, causing pain in the hips.

Hip Dysplasia

A condition where the hip socket is too shallow to fully cover and support the ball of the thigh bone, leading to instability, potential dislocation, pain and increase the risk of arthritis.

Shin Splints

A common overuse injury, shin splints cause pain and inflammation along the shin bone, typically as a result of repetitive stress on the muscles and tendons in this area.

Knee Pain Conditions

Patellar Tendinitis (Jumper’s Knee)

Inflammation of the patellar tendon, which connects the kneecap to the shinbone, causes pain below the kneecap and is common in athletes.

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (Runner's Knee)

Often a result of overuse or misalignment, this condition causes pain around the kneecap and is common among long distance runners.

Knee Osteoarthritis

This degenerative joint disease occurs when the cartilage that cushions the knee joint wears down over time, leading to pain, swelling, stiffness and becomes more prevalent with age.

Meniscus Tear

The meniscus tearing (cartilage that cushions the knee) usually occurs due to sudden twisting motions, especially during sports, causing pain and a “locking” sensation in the knee.

Ankle And Foot Pain Conditions

Plantar Fasciitis

A foot condition that can cause pain in the ankle, especially near the heel. It results from inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue along the bottom of the foot.

Achilles Tendinitis

This condition involves inflammation of the Achilles tendon, which connects the calf muscle to the heel. Symptoms include pain and stiffness at the back of the ankle.

Ankle Arthritis

Arthritis in the ankle joint can result from wear and tear, autoimmune disease, or joint trauma, and it usually manifests as chronic pain and reduced mobility in the ankle.

Hallux Valgus (Bunions)

A bunion forms on the joint under the big toe, often caused by improper footwear or genetic factors. It leads to pain, swelling, and can make wearing shoes uncomfortable.

Nerve Pain Conditions

Sciatica

This condition is characterised by pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back through the hips and buttocks and down each leg.

Cervical Radiculopathy

Nerves in the neck compressed due to disc degeneration, spinal misalignment, or arthritis, causing pain radiating down the arm.

(Pinched Nerve in Neck)

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Caused by compression of nerves between the collarbone and first rib, thoracic outlet syndrome leads to pain, numbness, and weakness in the arms and hands.

Lumbar Radiculopathy

When nerves in the lower back are compressed, lumbar radiculopathy causes pain, tingling, and numbness that radiates down the legs.

(Pinched Nerve in Lower Back)

Pregnancy Chiropractic Conditions

Lower Back Pain

Pregnancy often leads to lower back pain due to weight gain, postural shifts, changes in the body’s centre of gravity and hormonal changes, a common condition we manage.

Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction (PSD)

PSD occurs when the joint at the front of the pelvis becomes overly relaxed or misaligned, causing pain in the pubic area and difficulty with movement.

Round Ligament Pain

The round ligaments support the uterus during pregnancy and as it stretches, can cause sharp or aching pain in the lower abdomen, hips and groin when overstrained.

Edema (Swollen Feet)

Increased fluid retention during pregnancy can cause swelling in the feet and ankles, which chiropractors can address through gentle massages and adjustments.

Paediatric Chiropractic Conditions

Torticollis (Wry Neck)

Torticollis is a condition where an infant’s neck muscles become tight, causing the head to tilt to one side. Chiropractors can help improve neck mobility and alignment.

Colic and Digestive Issues

Colic, often due to digestive discomfort or gas, can cause excessive crying in infants. Gentle spinal adjustments may help improve gastrointestinal function.

Scoliosis

Early detection and management of scoliosis can be significant in paediatrics. We develop treatment plans to improve spinal alignment and alleviate symptoms.

Text Neck

Text Neck is a modern health issue, more common among children, caused by prolonged hunching over electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

Neck Pain Conditions

Cervical Strain

Usually due to either having poor posture for extended periods, poor sleeping position, spending long hours hunched over screens or a sudden twisting movement.

Cervical Disc Degeneration

Also known as neck arthritis or Cervical Spondylosis, is due to wear and tear of the cartilage and bones, leading to pain and stiffness in the neck.

Herniated Disc

When the cushion-like discs between the vertebrae protrude, slip or rupture, they can often press against the nerves, causing significant neck pain, tingling or weakness.

Whiplash

Often a result of car accidents or sudden forceful impact causing a jolt, whiplash is an injury to the neck's soft tissues. It can lead to chronic pain and limited neck movement.
